Animal Aide’s story writing team comprises 2 people. Every week we divide up the new cats and write the stories for the website. Some weeks there are more stories to write than others. The week that Africa came in was one of those busy weeks. He was not on my list. Africa has been at the shelter since July 3, 09, and it wasn’t until 2 weeks ago that I realized just how fabulous Africa is. Africa had gotten a bit of a cold and had to be separated from the rest. I have since learned a few new things about Africa. I already knew that he is a big beautiful, black cat. I already knew that he loved attention but I didn’t know just how cuddly he is. The big surprise, however, is that Africa is a polydactyl. Yes….he has extra toes on, not 2 feet but 3 feet. We have had them with extra toes on 2 feet and even a couple with extra on all 4 feet but I don’t think we have ever had one like Africa. Being black, Africa tends to get overlooked, but he is now at the top of my list of fabulous cats that I recommend to potential adopters. So, when choosing a long-time companion…don’t overlook the black ones!!! You could be missing out on someone great. 333 Talbot St, St. Thomas, give us a call at 519-633-3788 or send us an email.
YOU COULD HAVE PAL FOR LIFE

Atticus Finch was the name of the lead character in ‘To Kill A Mocking Bird”. Atticus is also a fabulous name for a cat and our Atticus would prefer to keep it. Atticus has lost two homes in his 6 years and I think we can, at least, let him keep his name. He, and his brother Polaris, were born July 15, 2004. Their first home was lost because their family preferred their new dog and since the cats didn’t appreciate the existence of the dog in their home, the cats were given away. Their second home was lost due to a very difficult family situation. Animal Aide was asked to accept them into the shelter and on March 13, 2010, Atticus and Polaris were tearfully surrendered to us. Both boys are orange and white tabbys and are front declawed. They are both understandably upset at the moment. Hopefully, they will settle in and show everyone how fabulous we were told that they are. Atticus likes to cuddle and is very affectionate but he prefers to keep a certain distance between his face and yours. While they are brothers, we were told that they don’t get along terribly well with each other so they do not need to be adopted together. Their last Mom suggested that they might be better off if there were no children or dogs in the home as they have no experience with the former and unpleasant experiences with the latter. Atticus can be seen at 333 Talbot St., St. Thomas, 519-633-3788 or e-mail us.
A LITERARY CAT FOR SURE
Some people may say that I am older. I prefer to think of myself as ……experienced. However, I have ….experienced a little too much lately. Recently, I was found living outside and was taken to the pound and then on Feb. 9, 2010, I was brought to Animal Aide. I am a mere shadow of my former self. I hate to admit it, but I am undergoing a wee bit of fur loss on my behind, but if you look at me from the front, you wouldn’t even notice. They tell me that I am 8 years old but I STILL prefer to think of myself as experienced…it just sounds better. I would be eternally grateful to the person who takes me home. Just give me a chance. 333 Talbot St., St. Thomas, 519-633-3788 or e-mail us.
