A Black Cat for You?

What is it about the black cat that makes some people so uncomfortable? I don’t understand. Black cats are no more unlucky than green sweaters. Animal Aide and most other shelters have more black cats than any other individual colour. Right now we have cats who came in as kittens last year and are still here. They have spent their childhood in a cage when they should have been in a home, playing and being loved. Other kittens of different colours from last year have all found homes but Poppy, Q-tip, Jewel, Kat, Sid, Sahara, Sally and probably a few more are still here. Is it fair? I don’t think so !!! I am hoping that this year’s black kittens have better luck than last year. Black Lily, Blue, Jinx, Mam, Pebbles, Rocky, Runt, Sammy, Tom Thumb, Yoda and Esme and Laurent. This list does not include all the black kittens to come or the ones I haven’t met yet in foster homes. Sure, the tabbies, torti’s, and the more colourful ones are cute but how can you resist a little black kitten running down the hall…all legs and ears? Let’s also not forget about all these black kittens mothers, most of whom are also black, some of them just under one year of age. Last Saturday, someone actually came in especially looking for a black kitten and, wonders of wonders, adopted her. It totally made my day!!! My question for you, the readers, is this…..if you are interested in adopting a cat or kitten, why would you NOT want a black one? What intelligent, logical reason can you come up with? Black Lily

Six week old Black Lily, her sister Jynx, brothers Sammy, Yoda and Rocky and, of course, their Mom Cinder were admitted to the Animal Aide family May 7, 2010. Cinder was adopted weeks ago, which proves how fabulous her kittens are. Those of you who are familiar with large families know that there is always one of the kids who is slightly different and like to go their own way. Black Lily is slightly different. She is very energetic, plays hard and is more of a clown. You understand…every family has one. I think that if they were all still together, Lily would be the leader and probably the one most likely to be in trouble. You could also say that LIly might be the most interesting and entertaining kitten in the family.
