Lilith 12-29-07 2

Not very many people understood you, including me, when we first met on September 4, 2004. I hadn’t been volunteering long and had not yet had much experience with feral cats. Next thing I knew, there you were. After all this time, you still had the most expressive eyes I have ever seen. It was you who showed me that feral cats had a purpose, feral cats could be socialized and it was you who taught me not to give up without a fight. You showed me how to work with a feral cat just by being so expressive with your eyes. You could be aggressive, if you felt the need, but you always gave me a chance to back off first. Your sister came around before you did and was adopted several years ago. You seemed happiest at the center and no one knew that better than those of us who knew you best.

Lilith and Donna 3-22-08You gained a level of trust for some of us and we learned to respect what you were and what you weren’t and we were rewarded for that by being able to hold and cuddle you. I have pictures of four of the volunteers holding you and we will all treasure those moments for they won’t come again. Sadly, not everything is in our control and your loss was certainly not in mine. I will remember you always for exactly who you were; an independent, loving cat who had more ‘cat-atude’ than any other cat I have ever met. It’s only March 2010 and way too soon to say goodbye to the girl that taught me nearly everything I know about socializing feral cats. More than 40 of my foster cats owe their new loving families and homes to you. I love you and I miss you dearly.

Ursa 3-20-10 3

Ursa was 7 months old when she was rescued and brought to Animal Aide March 11, 2010. She is still making up her mind as to whether it was a good thing. She can’t possibly know that the dangers outside outweigh the fears of inside by 100%. Ursa is still quite shy but is slowly learning that people aren’t too bad. Who knows what had happened to her before she came to us and just how much she has to overcome. Ursa is a very pretty girl with her black and white markings. Sometimes the shyer cats are the most grateful after they learn to trust, as long as you don’t push them faster than they are willing to go. Ursa is waiting at 333 Talbot St., St. Thomas, 519-633-3788 or e-mail us.

Delbert and Hubert at Home 3-18-10Dear Donna,

We have found a good home!

Auntie Jane is always checking my spelling mistakes.  Especially when I push the C, X, Z keys on her lap-top.

We have voted and have now decided that SHE can stay in our new home.  We have settled down and only wrestle for fun.

BUT the water spray bottle has now been introduced.  Gin is the trouble maker.  I just raise my paw and say ‘It wasn’t me!’ and then he get’s sprayed with the water!

Of course, if Gin didn’t go into a lower cupboard and rip open a bag of fish-food pellets; come prancing down the stairs with Auntie Jane’s tooth-brush; and then a day later try to drag a left-over T-bone from the garbage and hide it underneath a table (Okay; I’ll confess that I was part of that exploit) -everything is fine!

We’ve enclosed a photo of us looking extremely happy!

Paw-prints,

Tonic.

P.S. Gin says ‘Meow’
