No one at Animal Aide knew the impact you would have on our lives when you came through our doors on July 1, 2001. You had courage and a great belief that you, and only you, should be the most important cat that ever lived and you begged us to believe. Your unusual colouring, your green eyes, and your perfect personality all showed us how truly beautiful you were. We couldn’t have dreamed that you would stay with us the rest of your life.
You had total freedom with us the last few years as it became clear that you had become a resident cat. You slept where you wanted, you ate where you wanted, and you visited who you wanted whenever the mood struck you. Sometimes you pretended to be grumpy when all you really wanted was attention. Other times you would sit up and beg for a special treat. Many of us never tired of watching you do that, but we didn’t foresee how special you would become to all of us.
You ruled the centre, frequently passing the time sitting on the desk, watching everyone and everything. You were impossible to ignore, often putting yourself between us and whatever work we were attempting to do. Animal Aide and its volunteers will never be the same without you, but we are better off for having had you in our lives. Tears have been shed for you today and will continue to flow for some time to come; but when all is said and done, we will spend far more time celebrating your life than mourning your death. Shadie leaves behind many, many friends who will think of her every time they look at her favourite wicker bed in the window. The centre has lost it’s queen, but for those of us who knew you, we carry you within us. You left us on November 7, 2007. We will miss you, Shadie. We will always remember YOU!
